BETHLEHEM, PA – The City of Bethlehem’s free bikeshare program, Bike Bethlehem, is back starting today, Wednesday, June 9, after a year of rest and recovery from COVID-19 and the impacts of the pandemic.
“The bikes are freshly tuned up and available to borrow at the Bethlehem Area Public Library’s main branch in northside Bethlehem, as well as at Comfort Suites hotel in southside Bethlehem,” said Scott Slingerland, Director of the Coalition for Appropriate Transportation. “The program is open to all members of the public as an opportunity to provide healthy movement and exercise. Bike Bethlehem bikes can be used to bike around the city or to explore local trails such as the D&L Trail from Sand Island and the South Bethlehem Greenway, a lush greenspace through the heart of southside. Bikes are free to borrow with photo ID.”
Those interested in utilizing the program can, as they have done so in the past, borrow bikes for free from many locations, including the Main Library. In order to “check-out” a bike, patrons are responsible for filling out a waiver and returning the bike before the day comes to an end.
“Thank you to the Bethlehem Health Bureau for making these bikes available,” Executive Director of the Bethlehem Area Public Library Josh Berk said. “We’re happy to be a site for lending them out — it’s very cool to see bikes rolling out the front door of the library.”
