Every Hero Has a Story!  Family Fun Nights, a superhero training camp, concerts, a magic show, a live animal show, science workshops, story times, puppet shows, and more are planned to engage and entertain the younger crowd at the Main Library and the South Side Branch throughout the summer. Children may also register on the Bookmobile.

Teens: join Unmask! and read for prizes, as well as take part in free, special events including a cartooning workshop, Teen Fear Factor, trivia games, a superhero costume contest, and a superhero movie night.

Escape the Ordinary is the theme of the Adult Summer Reading Program. Patrons are invited to try new genres this summer—exploring heroes, superheroes, and other extraordinary people, places, and events. Prizes for adults, too!

Author Javier AvilaAnother Poetry Month celebration! Come to a book signing and conversation with accomplished poet Javier Ávila at the Main Library on Friday, April 24 from 6:30 to 8:00 PM. He is the recipient of numerous awards for his poetry. Javier will be signing his latest book, Vapor (2014), which is a bilingual anthology that brings together poems from his four award-winning books.

paint tubeCheer on Lehigh Valley Academy Regional Charter School students as they show off their artistic skills to promote healthy habits for children at Community Canvas on Tuesday, April 21 at the Main Library. The students will compete against each other, and one winner will be selected by the audience and the second winner by Facebook voting.  A local restaurant is offering healthy snacks at the event. Enjoy music and more beginning at 6:00 p.m. Community Canvas is sponsored by Children’s Hospital at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Communities in Schools, and Lehigh Valley Art Spark.

April is National Financial Literacy Month.  According to a 2014 Financial Literacy Survey conducted by the National Foundation for Credit Counseling (NFCC), 41% of adults gave themselves a grade of C, D or F on their knowledge of personal finance. To help remedy that alarming statistic, the MainLibrary is hosting a financial planning program on Tuesday, April 21 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. David M. Romanelli CFP®, Financial Advisor, Portfolio Manager of the Hoffmeier/Sherer Group and Christopher M. Wilson, CFP®, Financial Advisor at Morgan Stanley Wealth Management will present financial strategies and options to consider as you near retirement. Register here
