Wow! Swedish native, yoga rock star, and author Rachel Brathen is bringing her Yoga Girl Book Tour to the Main Library on Monday, March 30 at 6:30 p.m. REGISTRATION IS CLOSED. However, her many fans who did not register quickly enough are welcome to come at 7:30 p.m. to get the book signed. Rachel will stay to accommodate the crowd. We had to limit registration for the conversation part of the program to adhere to fire code restrictions.

MetacognitionwebMarch is Brain Awareness Month and to celebrate the amazing brain, the Main Library is hosting two children’s events sponsored by the Lehigh Valley Society for Neuroscience Chapter. Drop in anytime between 10 am and 4 pm on Saturday, March 21 for a Brain Party. Challenge your vision, test your reflexes, record an EEG of your own brain and try other mind-boggling activities. The all-day event is for all ages.

On Saturday, March 28 at 10:30 am, children, ages 3 to 8, will experience hands-on science activities and a story to illustrate how the brain works at Norbit the Neuron STEM Event. More here

The Freedom High School Fiddle Ensemble is performing at the Main Library on March 17. The Saint Patrick’s Day concert will feature Celtic instrumental music from 6:30 to 7:15 p.m. The free concert is sponsored by the Friends of the Library and is open to the public. No registration. More info

1000677361Enjoy the benefits of yoga at weekly classes offered at the Main Library on Wednesdays beginning March 18. Certified Yoga Teacher Wendy Thompson leads the one hour classes. The exercise sessions are from noon to 1 p.m. through April 29. Wear loose clothing and bring a yoga mat. No prior experience is necessary!

mlkAs a follow-up to the well-attended racial  disparity and criminal justice panel discussion last month, Dr. Brian Alnutt, Assistant Professor of History at NCC, is presenting a Black History Month lecture at the Main Library tonight. Using Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s 1967 book, Where Do We Go From Here: Chaos or Community?

Dr. Alnutt will bring historical context to how our country has changed since the Civil Rights movement of the 1960s and speculate what are the next steps. He will re-examine Dr. King’s core concepts and entertain audience questions and discussion. The program is from 6:30 to 7 :45 p.m. More here

paint tubeThere are still spaces open for Kidz Art Zone is rescheduled to March 7. There are a few spaces open for this class at the Branch. Learn about Greek mythology and the night sky before constructing a 3D constellation. Bonus: it will be edible! Ages 6-12. Free & all materials supplied.

guyHealthy toddlers are ready to learn! Toddlers at Play is a 5 week series for toddlers and their parents or caregivers. Children, ages 1-3, play with educational toys and explore music and art activities. Each week childhood professionals from the community serve as resources and interact one-on-one with parents, answering questions on an individual basis. Siblings welcome! Free!
