CharterArts-Logo-ColorEveryone is wonderfully unique is the message that the talented senior theater majors from The Lehigh Valley Charter High School for the Arts bring to the Library with two performances of Spot the Dot. All ages will enjoy this adaptation of the popular book by Max Lucado, You Are Special. The first performance is on Monday, December 12 at 6:30 pm at the Main Library. (Parking is available in the garage beneath the Library.) The second presentation is at the South Side Branch on Wednesday, December 14 at 11 am.

New York Times Best Selling Author is coming to BAPL!

9780316261173_Hilderbrand_F16W17New York Times best-selling author, Elin Hilderbrand, brings her favorite things about winter in Nantucket to the Main Library on Saturday, December 10 from 2 to 4 pm. The public is invited to meet this delightful writer who has a talent for mixing drama, glamour and romance in her novels. Moravian Book Shop will have copies of her latest book Winter Storms, last of the Winter Street trilogy, on hand for purchase and signing. “The holidays wouldn’t be complete without a little family dysfunction, and Hilderbrand writes it well.” says Library Journal about her latest effort. “Winter Street Trilogy [will] get you in the holiday mood.” notes Kirkus Reviews.

Movlic_pressEnjoy this entertaining British comedy-drama film, Happy-Go-Lucky, written and directed by Mike Leigh, on Saturday, December 10 at 1:30 pm at the Main Library. The film was cited as one of the ten best films of 2008 by many critics. The movie is rated R; under 17 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Free and open to the public.

This presentation is funded by Northampton Community College and the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH). Parking is available in the garage beneath the Library. More here

Family Fun Night celebrates Christmas City!

Free and open to the public. Please register and bring three gently used books to swap for others.

slitherhissMeet Bradley Kunsman and his wonderful collection of snakes, lizards and turtles at the Main Library on Tuesday, November 29 at 6:30 pm. Bring the family for an educational and fun-filled hour while Bradley reveals curious lore and entertaining facts as he charms the audience with his unusual menagerie. This STEM program is recommended for children, ages 5 and older because of the live reptiles. More here

There are many programs taking place at the South Side Branch from now until the end of 2016.

STEM Workshops:  Tuesday, November 29 and December 6, 4:30-5:30 PM.  For students in grades 2 – 8.  No registration required.  Snacks provided.

Snack Box Storytime:  Thursday, December 1, 8, & 15, 10:30-11:15 AM.  Bring your child to hear stories, sing songs, do a craft, and eat a snack.  No registration required.  All ages.  Please ring door bell near the library’s book drop.

Create with Me – Learn together!  Parent/child art classes:  Saturday, December 10, 12:00 – 1:00 PM.  Explore a variety of hands-on art and creative activities.  This art program is for ages 2-8 with an adult.  REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED.

Holiday Party:  Tuesday, December 13, 6:30-7:15 PM.  Bring your family and share a visit with Santa!  Stories, games, songs, snacks, and a craft.  REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED.  Space is limited.

Spot the Dot:  Wednesday, December 14, 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM.  Open to all ages.  The Lehigh Valley Charter High School for the Arts Senior Theatre Company production of an adaptation of You are Special by Max Lucado.  This engaging story emphasizes how special each person is regardless of what others think of them.  FREE!  No registration.

Handmade Holiday:  Thursday, December 1, 6:00-7:00 PM.  This event is for parents and their children.  Parents, while you are making a craft, your child will enjoy some winter stories, do a craft, and have a snack.  REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED.

Yarns n’ Threads:  Saturday, December 3, 1:00-3:00 PM.  This gathering is open to anyone who enjoys crocheting, knitting, or any other kind of needlecraft.  Enjoy the company while you work on your project.  Snacks provided.  No registration required.

Basic Computer Skills workshop for adults:  Saturday, December 17, 1:00-3:00 PM.  Registration required, space is limited.

Holiday Gift Shop:  Tuesday, December 20, 6:00-7:00 PM.  Children and parents can shop for trinkets, jewelry, and holiday accessories, alone or together.  Everything is priced less than $5.00.
