Teen FootballPreschool and elementary school students are encouraged to join On Your Mark, Get Set, Read! and earn prizes for reading this summer.The sports theme is carried over in the fifty-plus programs offered throughout the summer at the Main Library and the South Side Branch. Details

Kick-off events are planned for both locations on June 11 from 1- 3 pm. The Main Library will have roller derby, skateboarding and jump rope demonstrations with crafts, games and prizes. The Branch will stage a Jedi Training Academy with games, obstacle courses, and prizes.

Get in the Game…Read!  is the theme for the Teen Summer Reading Program. Students entering grades 6 to 12 in the Fall can participate in Snack Olympic Games, movie nights, an art workshop, book discussions, and teen challenges based on the show Minute to Win It. They will also earn prizes for reading.

Get ready for Battle of the Books

This Kick-Off event for the Exercise Your Mind, Read! adult summer reading program (which starts June 11 and goes through August 20) is presented by the Greater Lehigh Valley Writers Group. The coloring fad is gaining momentum because of its stress-relieving benefits.  The South Side Branch is having a workshop for adults on Saturday, May 7. Learn new techniques with watercolor pencils. The library will provide all the materials and refreshments. The two hour event begins at 1 p.m. and is free. More here

Certified instructors Stacy Duck and Liz Mooring from Tiger Schulmann’s Martial Arts will offer instruction and important information about safety, rape education, and domestic abuse prevention from 6:00 to 7:30 pm. The class is for women and girls, age 13 and older (under 18 must be accompanied by an adult).
