Zumba every Thursday starting this week!

zumbawebThe whole family can get into shape and have fun dancing to salsa, merengue, reggae and hip hop at the South Side Branch.  Zumba classes with a certified instructor every  Thursday beginning April 20 at 6:30 pm. The one-hour classes are free and all levels of students are welcome. The classes run through June 22.

northangerTo commemorate the 200th anniversary of her death, Lehigh University is having a number of events to celebrate the English novelist, Jane Austen, including an exhibit of 19th century first editions and a film series. Complimenting these events, Bethlehem Area Public Library  is hosting Lehigh faculty and graduate student-led Book Talks on each of Jane Austen’s novels on Tuesdays from 6:30 to 7:30 pm. The Book Talks are funded in part by Lawrence Henry Gipson Institute for 18th-Century Studies. The schedule for each Book Talk follows:

Get a crash course in Hip Hop

hip hopHip Hop Headphones, a crash course in Hip Hop culture, will be presented at the Main Library on Thursday, March 30 at 6:30 pm. Dr. James Braxton Peterson, the Director of Africana Studies and Associate Professor of English at Lehigh University, is the presenter of this program about the intersection of race and popular culture.  He is the author of several books, The Hip Hop Underground and African American Culture, Prison Industrial Complex for Beginners, and Hip Hop Headphones: A Scholar’s Critical Playlist.  Peterson hosts “The Remix” on Philadelphia’s NPR affiliate, WHYY.  Peterson has written for Newsweek.com, The Guardian, The LA Times, Reuters, and The Daily Beast.  He is a media commentator and has appeared on MSNBC, Al-Jazeera, CNN, HLN, Fox News, and other networks.
