Summer Reading is here! Every Hero Has a Story! Family Fun Nights, a superhero training camp, concerts, a magic show, a live animal show, science workshops, story times, puppet shows, and more are planned to engage and entertain the younger crowd at the Main Library and the South Side Branch throughout the summer. Children may also register on the Bookmobile.
Teens: join Unmask! and read for prizes, as well as take part in free, special events including a cartooning workshop, Teen Fear Factor, trivia games, a superhero costume contest, and a superhero movie night.
Escape the Ordinary is the theme of the Adult Summer Reading Program. Patrons are invited to try new genres this summer—exploring heroes, superheroes, and other extraordinary people, places, and events. Prizes for adults, too!
Who will be the lucky customer who puts the Book Sale at the Main Library over the million dollar mark and wins a $100 gift certificate? We are only about $10,000 short of reaching our goal. The book sales have raised $989,785 for the Library since 1977.
Select from 15,000 books, DVDs and CDs in great condition and very affordable. Gardening books are highlighted this sale, as well as home improvement books. Encourage your children to read over the summer by letting them choose their own books to treasure. Most credit cards are accepted. Cheer on Lehigh Valley Academy Regional Charter School students as they show off their artistic skills to promote healthy habits for children at Community Canvas on Tuesday, April 21 at the Main Library. The students will compete against each other, and one winner will be selected by the audience and the second winner by Facebook voting. A local restaurant is offering healthy snacks at the event. Enjoy music and more beginning at 6:00 p.m. Community Canvas is sponsored by Children’s Hospital at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Communities in Schools, and Lehigh Valley Art Spark.
March is Brain Awareness Month and to celebrate the amazing brain, the Main Library is hosting two children’s events sponsored by the Lehigh Valley Society for Neuroscience Chapter. Drop in anytime between 10 am and 4 pm on Saturday, March 21 for a Brain Party. Challenge your vision, test your reflexes, record an EEG of your own brain and try other mind-boggling activities. The all-day event is for all ages.
On Saturday, March 28 at 10:30 am, children, ages 3 to 8, will experience hands-on science activities and a story to illustrate how the brain works at Norbit the Neuron STEM Event. More here…
The Freedom High School Fiddle Ensemble is performing at the Main Library on March 17. The Saint Patrick’s Day concert will feature Celtic instrumental music from 6:30 to 7:15 p.m. The free concert is sponsored by the Friends of the Library and is open to the public. No registration. More info…
We’re celebrating Dr. Seuss’s birthday tonight! Join us for all things Seuss at a Family Fun Night on Tuesday, March 10 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. The Cat in the Hat will make a special appearance at this event that celebrates Seuss’s books through crafts, music, games, and stories. The event is hosted by the Library’s Teen Advisory Board.
