Teen FEAR FACTOR Tonight

Unleash your inner hero. In keeping with the Teen summer reading theme, Unmask Heroes, an evening of mind-bending, stomach-turning, and strength-testing challenges are planned for Wednesday, July 1 at 6:30 p.m. at the Main Library.  The Library’s Teen Advisory Board has developed their own version of the popular Fear Factor realty game show. Contestants will compete against each other in a variety of stunts for prizes. “It will be hilarious and gross at the same time,” says Dana Hoy, Head of Youth Services.

The event is free and open to teens in grades 6-12. Details

Tom McDonnell, the favorite magician at the Please Touch Museum in Philadelphia, amazes all ages with his illusions. He will perform at the Main Library on Tuesday, June 30. Details

A second show is scheduled for the South Side Branch on Thursday, July 2. Both one-hour shows are at 6:30 p.m. Both are FREE, and registration is required at the South Side Branch only. Register for the Branch performance here.

AnimeCome to the South Side Branch for a free Superhero Art Workshop on Tuesday, June 16. Professional cartoonist Cotty Kilbanks will demonstrate techniques. All the materials will be provided. She will present the same workshop at the Main Library on Monday, June 22. Both one-hour workshops are at 6:30 p.m. and require registration. Register for Branch program here. TEENS: Dress as your favorite hero or villain from comic books, pop culture or literature for a Heroes and Villains celebration at the Main Library on Wednesday, June 17 from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. A trivia game, costume contest and similar entertainment are planned. Grades 6-12. Details

Every Hero Has a Story!  Family Fun Nights, a superhero training camp, concerts, a magic show, a live animal show, science workshops, story times, puppet shows, and more are planned to engage and entertain the younger crowd at the Main Library and the South Side Branch throughout the summer. Children may also register on the Bookmobile.

Teens: join Unmask! and read for prizes, as well as take part in free, special events including a cartooning workshop, Teen Fear Factor, trivia games, a superhero costume contest, and a superhero movie night.

Escape the Ordinary is the theme of the Adult Summer Reading Program. Patrons are invited to try new genres this summer—exploring heroes, superheroes, and other extraordinary people, places, and events. Prizes for adults, too!
