Summer Reading Club
Our Summer Reading Club is part of a national grassroots initiative among libraries across the country to encourage summer reading in children from pre-school to high school. Each Summer Reading Club program has a unique and fun-filled theme that incorporates craft activities, games and storytime events.
Once registered, every child or teen receives a sign-up gift and the Summer Reading Club fill-in sheet used for recording information about the books read during the course of the program. All participants have an opportunity to earn at least one prize per week, if enough books are read and they are recorded appropriately for their specific age group – pre-reader, reader or teen (Parents of
pre-readers may also read to their child to qualify for prizes.) Prizes can include great treats such as gift certificates to family restaurants, books, candy, or toys from one of our special "treasure" boxes.
The South Side Branch also has a special 6 to 8 week storytime and craft series for kids registered in either pre-reader or reader groups. Unlike our regular spring, fall and winter storytime sessions, all children must be registered separately for each weekly event. Although we don't accept sign-ups earlier than a week before each craft event, for your convenience you can register immediately following a weekly activity. This very popular program fills-up fast, so mark your calendars and register early. You won't want to miss out on the ton of fun that you'll find at the South Side Branch this summer!
