Holiday Party Get into the holiday spirit each December as we read holiday-themed stories, pass around wrapped gifts (usually books) and sing carols. The party concludes with a craft activity where each child makes two ornaments—one for home and one that they place on our holiday tree.
Spring Party The Spring Party includes both storytime and craft events, finishing with our annual egg hunt. There is also a special prize awarded to the child who most accurately guesses how many eggs are in the basket displayed prior to the party. Typically held between late March and early April.
Beach Party Our South Side Beach Party offers kids a number of summer games including frisbee and bean-bag toss. Feel free to lay out your beach towel as we make ice cream sundaes with all the fixings –
a great way for your family to cool off during the dog days of summer. This fun-filled party is typically held between mid-July and the end of August.
Fiesta! South Side Branch has a Hispanic Heritage Fiesta each September in celebration of Hispanic Heritage month. The party begins with three stories: one in Spanish, one in English with Spanish mixed in, and one in both languages. We play Loteria, a game of chance that is a popular tradition at Mexican fairs. Loteria is similar to Bingo, but instead of a numbered grid, the game is based on iconic Mexican culture pictograms. The party also includes dancing, a craft activity and a movie featuring a well-known story performed in Spanish.
Halloween Party Every October, the Halloween Party proves to be one of our most successful events. All children come dressed in costumes and parade around the block before returning for a story, Halloween bingo and a craft activity. The fun continues as we dance in a blacklight filled room that sets fluorescent colors on costumes aglow. Finally, everyone is sent off with a candy treat!
