Chess for Beginners is back this summer, and we are taking our sessions outside! Beginning June 15th from 1pm-2pm on Tuesdays, join us at the Coolidge Branch in Bethlehem Township with our returning expert chess coach and teen volunteer Christopher Giannaras. This class series is open to all ages (3rd grade and up), with a cap of 10 students per outside session. We will meet outside at the picnic tables at the back entrance of the library. Masks must be worn at all times, and only 2 participants will be seated at each table. Since space is limited, please sign up only for the sessions you are planning to attend.
Classes will be held 6/15, 6/22, 6/29, 7/6, 7/13, 7/20, 8/3. Note that there is no class on 7/27.
In the case of rainy weather, the sessions will be hosted over Zoom with no cap on attendance. For those not previously registered who wish to attend a rain-date Zoom session, please call the Coolidge Branch at 484-892-6267 the day of the Zoom session to receive the link via email. All students will need to create a free account on iChess before the first Zoom session.
Christopher Giannaras has been playing chess tournaments since elementary school and has achieved the rank of Expert with a USCF rating of over 2000. He is also the captain of the LHS chess team and has competed against numerous National and International Masters. Chris has a passion for teaching chess to others.
